Today, We Became Activists

Updated: May 22, 2021

Our country is hurting. Our country is grieving. But above all, our country is changing.

The fight to end racism in America is on, and we are called to not only stand up against injustice, but to also educate ourselves to be a betterAmerica. It’s not Instagrammable. It’s not pretty. It’s not even easy, but it is necessary.

So, today, we became activists.

As a nomadic family, we cannot call a single community home because for us, everywhere is home. And that makes every community home. So today, we stood with our local community in a peaceful protest geared for families with children – Little Ones for Big Change. Today, we made signs. Today, we stood. Today, we chanted. Today, we joined the movement.

Racism is not a singular issue here in America, and as a nomadic family, we have seen the effects of this across the country. Although it runs heavy in some areas more than others, it runs throughout every single state. We know this because we hear the voices, we see the marches, and we unite together for the same cause.

Now, more than ever, is the time to do what you have been called to do. When you think back on this moment in our history, will you be proud of your actions to stand up for change? Will you be able to say that you were a part of the movement? Or will you look back and wish you had done better? For us, in this family, we want our kids to know that we did our job. It’s uncomfortable, yes. It’s hard to find the right words, yes. But it’s our job to raise the next generation to be anti-racist, to stand up for justice, and to eliminate the hate.

So, today, we became activists.

We stood for our brothers and sisters in our national community, and we began to make changes right here on the homefront.

We are learning, always learning. We are listening, because this is not just our fight. We are changing – how we educate, how we speak, what we watch, where we shop and how we experience. We are diversifying, and we are addressing our personal faults, changing our mindsets, and opening our hearts.

Today, we became activists for a tomorrow where Black lives matter, where we stand hand in hand, respectfully and peacefully.
